What sports does FCA offer?
Currently, FCA Sports in Northern Middle TN offers flag football, tackle football, basketball, and volleyball opportunities for athletes of all ages. FCA has also fielded baseball club teams in previous seasons and hopes to continue expanding sports offerings as interest and leadership grow.
What age groups can participate?
We offer programs across multiple sports and age ranges. Because team formation is typically dependent on securing a coach, age divisions may vary by sport and season. Below are the age ranges FCA Sports fielded during the 2026 season:
Baseball: 9U–16U
Softball: 12U–14U (10U launching in the 2026–27 season)
Volleyball: 12U–18U
Basketball: 4th–7th grade
Wrestling: Ages 7 and up
Golf: 2nd grade–adult
Where are these teams based out of?
Northern Middle TN FCA Sports serves families across Sumner County TN. Our reach extends throughout the Middle TN area north of Nashville.
How much does it cost to play on an FCA Sports Team?
The cost to participate varies depending on the sport and age level. During the 2026 season, team fees ranged from $400 to $1,500.
Each coach works closely with their FCA Sports director to develop a team budget that covers all anticipated season expenses. Several factors influence the overall cost, including the number of tournaments, practice facility rentals, uniforms, gear, and other program needs.
Are payment plans available?
Yes. After the initial deposit is collected, the remaining balance can be paid through a payment plan. These plans are typically set up on a monthly schedule, or can be spread out over a few payments during the course of the season, depending on the length of the program and the total cost.
Are fundraising opportunities available?
Yes. All FCA Sports teams are asked to participate in at least the team sponsorship fundraiser. Funds raised go toward the team’s overall goal and help reduce the cost for all athletes on the team.
Additional fundraising opportunities may also be available depending on the cost of the season and the interest of families on the team.
What is the practice and game schedule like?
Most teams practice twice a week for 1.5 to 2 hours per session. Because these are club teams, they typically do not follow a fixed weekday league schedule and instead compete in weekend tournaments.
Teams primarily play games on weekends, and coaches schedule tournaments throughout the season. We strongly encourage coaches to avoid back-to-back weekends and holiday weekends when possible, as we place a strong emphasis on the health and balance of the family.
How much travel is involved?
Travel depends on the coach and families involved in planning the season. Most FCA Sports teams may include one or two “travel” weekends, which are typically within a reasonable driving distance.
More competitive or older teams may choose to participate in tournaments that require air travel, but this will always be clearly communicated before commitment to the team is made.
When are tryouts held?
Some, but not all, FCA Sports teams hold tryouts. In some cases, teams enter the FCA Sports club space already formed, while other programs are looking to add players to existing rosters.
For teams holding tryouts, timing varies by sport but typically falls within the following windows:
Baseball: July–August
Softball: August
Volleyball: November
Basketball: August–September
Tryout dates may vary slightly each year depending on coach availability and team formation needs.
Are athletes cut after tryouts?
Sometimes. Some FCA Sports teams hold larger, more formal tryouts to evaluate roster needs or place athletes appropriately within a program. Other teams may use tryouts to determine final roster spots depending on the number of athletes and the structure of the team.
When roster decisions are part of the tryout process, coaches will clearly communicate expectations and outcomes as part of team formation.
Do athletes have to be Christian to participate?
No. FCA Sports is open to athletes of all backgrounds and beliefs. While FCA is a faith-based organization, we welcome all participants who want to grow as athletes, teammates, and leaders in a positive and supportive environment.
Are athletes required to attend Bible studies or church?
No. Athletes are not required to attend church in order to participate in FCA Sports. However, athletes are required to attend their weekly team Huddle (Bible study or devotional), as it is part of the team expectations and reflects FCA Sports’ commitment to discipleship through sports.
How are FCA coaches selected?
FCA coaches are selected through a review and approval process led by FCA Sports directors. This process includes evaluating each coach’s experience, leadership ability, and alignment with FCA’s mission and values.
All coaches are expected to model strong character, exemplify Christ-like qualities both on and off the field, create a positive team culture, and support the development of athletes physically, mentally, and spiritually. In many cases, teams are also formed around coaches who are already approved and ready to lead.
How can I become an FCA coach?
To become an FCA coach, interested individuals should connect with their respective sport’s FCA Sports director to begin the application and approval process.
Do coaches receive ministry or leadership training?
Yes. FCA coaches are provided with ministry and leadership development opportunities to help them grow in their ability to lead athletes well. This includes training, resources, and ongoing support from FCA Sports directors designed to engage, equip, and empower athletes.
Does FCA offer camps or clinics?
Yes. FCA Sports offers camps and clinics throughout the year designed to help athletes develop their skills, grow in confidence, and connect with coaches and peers in a positive camp environment.
Camp and clinic opportunities will be listed on each sport’s homepage. You can also find FCA camp opportunities at https://nmtnfca.org/
